MetriKon 2009: Measurement for Software Professionals
An important date is coming up for all software developers, decision makers, and engineers in the IT domain: On 19 and 20 November 2009, the software metrics conference MetriKon 2009 will take place at the Fraunhofer Institute for Experimental Software Engineering IESE in Kaiserslautern for the third time.
This professional conference organized by the Deutschsprachige Anwendergruppe für Softwaremetrik und Aufwandschätzung e.V. (DASMA) will offer a comprehensive program of presentations featuring contributions from state-of-the-art research and experience reports from industrial application in practice.
The
keynote speakers at the beginning and end of the event will include
Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Dieter Rombach, executive director of Fraunhofer
IESE, and Dr. Jürgen Knoblach, director of the measurement program for
monitoring electrical and electronic development of BMW Group.
Concurrently with the conference, an exhibition will be organized
where service providers and tool manufacturers will present their
offers in support of software measurement and cost estimation.
Professional contributions by experts in their field, hailing from
institutions such as Fraunhofer IESE or the universities RWTH Aachen
and Magdeburg, will be given, and reports will be delivered by
experienced practitioners from renowned companies such as T-Systems,
Siemens, or Daimler – to name but a few. Furthermore, there will be an
opportunity to participate in tutorials on software measurement
processes and cost estimation: On the day before the conference (18
November 2009), tutorials will be held on introducing or consolidating
complex software measurement and cost estimation topics or processes.
This trend-setting professional conference is the only one of its
kind in Germany that focuses on measurement, and is therefore the place
to meet for international specialists from industry and research. The
number of participants, which continues to increase year after year, is
proof of the great significance of these issues for the entire
information and communication industry. In a dense program,
practitioners and decision makers can obtain information about the
state of the art of scientific research and get valuable ideas for
their own organizational practice from the intensive exchange with
application professionals from industry.
Traditionally, contributions at MetriKon conferences have
comprised aspects such as comparison, introduction, and evaluation of
goal-oriented software metrics as well as practical experiences with
industrially used methods for estimating the development effort in
software projects. Special focus will be given to quantitative project
management and controlling issues as well as to ways of providing tool
support for selected processes. Work done by ambitious next-generation
scientists is not overlooked – which is reflected by the award given to
the best diploma thesis in the area of software metrics and effort
estimation. The award, endowed with 1000 euros, will be presented in
the context of an evening event to be held at the end of the first
conference day.
